New Pages Added

I added some more pages but you have to click on the TABs along the top to the right of HOME to view these pages.

One page is my trip to Tahiti, where I stayed on a double-masted schooner. I saw the "green flash" on the horizon over the Pacific at sunset but did not catch it on film, it happens so quickly!

The other page is my trip through New Mexico & a surprise finding north of Taos.

    1. I was just trying to remember whether or not I still had Snoppy amongst the things I hold onto. I would think so as I keep everything. But a lot of years have gone by. I'll search around.

      Wishing you well.

    2. OMG, I found Snoppy stored in my 32' 1952 Vagabond trailer! He has a collar that Wally made for it back in '83 when we were sailing. There is no damage except for a little neck stitching that has failed and maybe 25% of the right ear attachment. I am so glad that Snoopy has survived all these years. He was a constant companion and actually rode in my backpack with his head sticking out when I traveled around New Zealand. Yep, Snoopy has some real travels under his collar. Too cool!

  3. Charlie, is that really you? I can not believe my eyes.
Did you see where Papillon went aground on Fire Island, N.Y.? I just found the story and it nearly brought tears to my cheeks. You have great pictures here. Reminds me of another life. I hope that you and "J" are doing well.

    1. Well how in the heck can I remain anonymous if you know who I am and have my email address. LOL
Actually, I am surprised to see you monitoring this. I mean, not much action for someone with the answers or not. But I understand that Tavis found life here as he got a response. That is so cool! I am smiling...........

    2. I thought to try and email without posting it here and didn't figure that out. No big deal, just my first blog site. Love to hear from you. I believe that I found Wally and Jan in a search last night. Amazing! I'll try and phone them today.

  5. Made contact with Wally and Jan this afternoon. What a trip! They sound great and look forward to hearing from you. It was as though 30 years hadn't gone by. But we all know better. I'll forward their contact information to you when I hear back.

Oh, and yes, I get what it is to know and not to know. My favorite expression has always been that "I don't know anything and I don't even know that for sure". Hopefully I've lived above that mark from time to time. LOL

  6. Okay, in line with the program here, I have a question for Charlie.

We are currently going through two significant Pacific rim happenings my question pertains too. The first is the greatest Humpy Pink Salmon run in recorded history hitting our rivers here in the Northwest. The waters are swirling with them and fishermen are bringing home the roe and the meat for smoking.

On the other side of the Pacific rim we have the Fukushima nuclear reactor water reservoir leaking into the Pacific Ocean.

The question is, will this radiation leak decimate the now emerging Humpy population and render all such fish inedible for years to come?

    Venture any thoughts?

  7. I suspect that the Pacific currents will do a very fine job of spreading the radiation throughout the ocean. This map shows just how at risk we are. No, not just at risk, but the inevitability of an event most people are choosing to ignore if they have the slightest clue. The Fukushima leak has now gone to the next level, what with the holding reservoir busting through to the ocean floor. Check out the map:

    And migration routes:
    http://images.search.yahoo.com/search/images?_adv_prop=image&fr=yff40c&va=PINK+SALMON+MIGRATION+ROUTE

This could destroy the commercial fishing industry in the Pacific for years to come. Also, considering the many other uses of fish products, you may believe that there is considerable concern amongst those paying attention. This event will make the Chernoble disaster look like child's play in comparison. At least that is my take on it.

  8. UPDATE ON FUKUSHIMA: Fukushima: Radioactive Water Leaking Everywhere. “The accident in Fukushima cannot be left entirely to Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO). There is a need for the Japanese government to play a role with a sense of urgency, including taking measures to deal with the radioactive waste water.”
    - Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, August 28, 2013

Japan's Fukushima Dai-ichi TEPCO nuclear power plant
at Okuma in Fukushima prefecture, northern Japan, that was severely damaged in the March 11, 2011, large earthquake and tsunami. In foreground, are the dozens of containment cylinders continually manufactured to hold the highly radioactive water coming from the cooling waters around the nuclear cores and spent fuel rods that are still hot and radioactive. Now a Unit 3 container and dozens of other sources are leaking highly radioactive water.

CESIUM-137 EXPECTED TO HIT NORTHWEST SHORES BY EARLY 2014

AS ALWAYS, DO YOUR OWN "DD". THIS IS JUST THE LATEST REPORTING I HAVE FOUND.

  9. Looks as though I understood the obvious. That may be a first. LOL. Wish that it was good news though. This is not funny!

    1. Fukushima is not good news especially in Japan. The first article I read from summer 2012 estimated the radiation would reach the coast of North America about 2017, but now a year later the expectation is 2014.

Cesium-134 & cesium-137 seems to be the contaminents

this link is from Radio Australia http://www.radioaustralia.net.au/international/radio/program/pacific-beat/small-risk-of-major-fish-contamination-from-fukushima-leak/1173438

and seems to minimize the risk

I had dinner with family at a Japanese restaurant on Saturday & they all ordered salmon; no one expressed any concern. I believe the media in this country is not saying much. My one friend in Japan heard from the BBC that the disaster was worse than originally reported in 2011. She did not hear this in Japan.

    2. I see the denial, denial, denial in some stories while others seem to express a greater concern. Unfortunately, we may not know the answers until the commodities traders get a death grip on any of the fisheries products that will be escalating in price over the next month or two. Today's published articles suggest too major events in this regards. One is that the Japanese will scrub the waters before releasing them into the sea and another is that they are in deep trouble and are asking for global assistance. In any case, the middle ground is in regards to what is leaking and has been leaking at a fairly substantial rate. Lots of people are really worried about this issue and I believe that amongst all the opinions lies the truth and the lies and I will increase my inventories accordingly. Thank you for the response. We have a pretty interesting thing to follow here. I never did see the massive debris from the Tsunami that were predicted. Interesting!

  10. September 4th news out on Fukushima: http://www.cnn.com/2013/09/04/world/asia/japan-fukushima-crisis/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

Radiation readings near tanks holding toxic water at Japan's crippled nuclear power plant have jumped to a new high, the plant operator said Wednesday.

Tokyo Electric Power Company, which has been struggling to deal with a series of leaks at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, said it detected a radiation level of 2,200 millisieverts near the tanks on Tuesday. That's up from a previous high of 1,800 millisieverts on Saturday.

Those levels, detected around the same tank, are strong enough to kill an unprotected person within hours. But TEPCO said the type of radiation is easy to shield against.
